MAIN INITIATIVE

Improving the health and wellbeing of communities

The Works, Inc. Food Programs provide evidence-based nutrition education through healthy cooking classes and connect you to fresh local produce at the seasonal South Memphis Farmers Market.

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of communities by advancing food security and nutrition, promoting sustainable practices, and working together to create a healthier future for all.

About Food Programs

Established in 2010, the South Memphis Farmers Market (SMFM) is a cornerstone of the South Memphis Revitalization Action Plan (SoMeRAP), situated at the vibrant intersection of Mississippi Blvd and South Parkway. Beyond its seasonal outdoor farmers market and year-round grocery store, SMFM is dedicated to community wellness by providing free cooking

classes in its fully equipped kitchen. These engaging classes are offered throughout the year at various times, making it easy for community members to learn how to prepare healthy meals and make the most of the fresh, local produce available.

Our Vision

Our programs aim to improve food security in South Memphis by increasing access to fresh,

local produce. We hope to have all spaces available at the South Memphis Farmers Market

filled with local producers. Cooking Works envisions healthy cooking classes throughout the

week regularly including series focused specifically on chronic disease management.
