Demolition by the City of Memphis began Tuesday on the Tillman Cove Apartments in Binghampton, marking the first use of the city’s Community Catalyst Fund.
The fenced-off set of one-story brick structures built in the post-World War II housing shortage are giving way to a mix of housing to be built by Elmington Capital of Nashville.
The city picked Elmington, which has $100 million in development completed or underway in the city over the past decade, from several proposals submitted for what is city property.
The apartments have been vacant since 2016 when the private owners of the complex – Lauren & Hope Property, which bought the complex two years earlier – gave tenants two weeks’ notice to move out. Read More
