The Works offers free comprehensive housing counseling services for residents of the City of Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee. This program is operated as a HUD certified counseling program, which means that we are held to the highest standard of quality and routinely work with HUD to ensure that our program staff are abreast of the latest developments in the industry.

This program provides high quality, customized counseling services to clients based on their individual needs and goals. As a part of the initial intake counseling session, a counselor works with the client to identify their goals and issues that may stand in the way of realizing those goals. This information is then used to develop a customized counseling plan for the client – we are faithful in our commitment to our clients and are willing to work with them as long as it takes to reach their goals. For example, we recently helped a client to purchase her first home after completing a two year counseling work plan designed to help repair her damaged credit and prepare her for homeownership through education.

 

 

Counseling Opportunities
Homebuyer education is one of the most important parts of the EducationWorks program. Without the proper knowledge regarding owning a home, many first time buyers would be doomed to fail, particularly with the state of the market today. However, with education it is possible to assist clients in becoming sustainable homeowners. Outside of homebuyer education, The Works offers a full suite of counseling services designed to address the needs in our community. These services include:
